Replacing NEP - special cleaning agents for the polyurethane processing industry

Trusted solvents such as NEP are still used in an extremely wide range of applications, particularly in polyurethane processing.

A component manufacturer for engineering and conveyor technology using in-house polyurethane elastomer formulations, as well as Vulkollan, had been looking for a suitable replacement product to remove stubborn release agent residue for some time. Release agent residue which is very difficult to remove builds up on the mould form surface particularly during the hot casting of polyurethane elastomers due to the high temperatures involved.

In the past, an NEP-based cleaner was used. It was clear this product should be replaced because of its toxicity! Due to the unsatisfactory results of extensive testing carried out on NEP-free cleaning agents in the past, the customer was keen to work alongside the application specialists at Färber & Schmid and test appropriate cleaners on site. After a few short-term tests, the customer then carried out long-term tests and found that the new product was ideal.

They are now using the cleaning agent RESIN-Clean EXP-3/M-V2, which demonstrates a huge dissolving capacity even at room temperature. The new product’s low toxicity is very impressive. The customer purchased a suitable container for depositing the tool parts and leaves the parts in the cleaner overnight.

If a job needs to be done very quickly for any reason, the cleaning agent is also very suitable for manual cleaning, for example using a paintbrush or cloth.
