Removal of cured polyamide-imide (PAI) baking finishes from steel and stainless steel

A manufacturer of specialised steel components for the fuel cell industry was looking for an environmentally and employee-friendly yet powerful cleaning system or paint remover for the removal of stubborn PAI (polyamide-imide) baking finishes.

Typically, NEP or NEP-based paint removers are used to remove such cured coating systems. However, due to the classification of NEP, the customer did not want to use it in the laboratory or in production for occupational safety reasons.

Series parts were provided for laboratory testing in our customer lab. Following raw material testing, a suitable special cleaner was quickly tailored and formulated to meet the customer's specific requirements. Final customer approval was obtained through subsequent production trials.
