Replacement of methylene chloride - Special varnish remover for the clock industry

RESIN Clean BS-15

Although methylene chloride was banned a long time ago, due to a lack of viable alternatives, it is still being used in 2018 for certain purposes such as varnish removal.

Together with a user and renowned supplier of the clock industry, Färber & Schmidt has developed a highly efficient solution for decoating varnish on delicate and demanding raw materials.

At our first encounter in January 2018, the client described the current unsatisfactory situation and disclosed that several providers have already attempted this task – nota bene without success. The task involves the removal of strategic protective varnishes with a layer thickness of 20 microns and with cataphoretically applied varnishes. Based on previous practical experience, this has only been feasible until now with products containing methylene chloride.

With RESIN-Clean BS-15, which was newly developed for these applications, it is possible to completely replace such products that cause problems for the environment and users.

After thorough testing, the client now uses RESIN Clean BS-15 for all raw materials common in the company such as brass, stainless steel and nickel silver.

Due to the excellent solvency and the resulting extremely short immersion time, users do not have to change their current production process. Furthermore, the product has impressive stain-free cleaning qualities. After a production phase lasting several weeks, clients are completely satisfied!
